Glulam beams are an evolution of a standard timber beam. Made by gluing layers of timber together (hence 'glued laminated timber'!) they offer increased spans and loading capabilities, resistance to warping and can be utilised for a wide range of uses, including lintels, beams, floor joists, roof beams and more. Although they can't quite match steel in terms of raw strength, they offer greater aesthetic appeal and can be left exposed to form a feature in any room. On top of this, they are far more environmentally friendly and substantially lighter, making them handleable on site without a crane in many cases. Please note, the glulam we stock is not technically visual grade. The images on this page display how it will look.

🪽 Lightweight: Compared to steel and concrete, glulam is relatively lightweight, reducing transportation costs and making it easier to handle on site.

💷 Cost-effective: Compared with steel, glulam is often more cost-effective. You can add the beams above to your basket to build a quote online in just a few minutes.

🌳 Sustainable: Glulam is a largely renewable material, and its production process generates less carbon dioxide compared to steel and concrete, making it an eco-friendly option for construction.

💪 Strong: Glulam is engineered to support heavy loads, making it a suitable material for large structures like roofs and beams. It also has high resistance to bending and can handle heavy stresses.

We source all of our glulam from sustainably managed spruce forests in northern Sweden. The region's sawmills adhere to strict forestry practices that ensure long-term sustainability. Additionally, the colder climate in northern Sweden promotes slower tree growth, resulting in denser, more durable timber that enhances the strength and weather resistance of the final product.

What are glulam beams?

Glulam beams are, essentially, a multitude of smaller timber components glued together to form a beam. They can be engineered for a huge range of uses, are available in hundreds of different sizes, weigh significantly less than most alternatives and, being timber, are renewable.
