How to Reduce the Cost of Your Roof Trusses
Share
A roof truss project needn't be a stressful and overly-expensive ordeal. Choosing the right manufacturer is step number one (and might we add, we're a fantastic choice), but there are some other key considerations to reduce the cost of your project. Here are a few:
Don't Overcomplicate Things
A straight run of standard trusses is significantly easier to design, manufacture & deliver than one with dormers, complex hips, valleys and so on. The simpler your design, the cheaper it'll be (within reason). We're not saying simplify your dream home to a garden shed, but be aware that your idea might be bigger than your wallet!
Optimise Walls
The larger the span of the truss, the greater the timber size and the more expensive it'll be. If you have load-bearing walls, we can factor these into the design to reduce the stress on the trusses, potentially reducing timber sizes and crucially the cost.
Measure Twice, Cut Once
The last thing you want is for your trusses not to fit due to incorrect measuring. Make sure you measure a few times (we can run through how to do this over the phone) to avoid any additional labour costs on site or, worse, having to fork out for new trusses.
Be Ready to Offload
Truss manufacturers, us included, generally don't feature any form of offloading facility on our vehicles. We're restricted by law to a specific load length, and with HIAB taking up almost two metres, it wouldn't leave us with enough space to transport larger trusses. If you're only ordering small trusses, you might be able to offload them by hand (check your quote for the weights of each truss). For larger jobs, make sure to source a teleporter, forklift or crane to make the process as smooth as possible.
Order Everything Together
If you need joists or glulam beams as well as trusses, it makes financial sense to order the whole lot in one go. Multiple deliveries = multiple delivery costs.
